Established in 1999, Motorcycle Safety School (MSS) has built a solid reputation as a forerunner in motorcycle education and rider safety as the largest training school in New York State.
Diane Howells started her motorcycle experience when her father enrolled her in a MSF course in her home state of Vermont. She was lucky to have Ben and Jerry (as in the ice cream company) in her class. Afterwards, she was able to secure financing from them for her documentary on woman motorcyclists entitled, "Motorcycle Diaries." This documentary can be found on , but was also featured in the Guggenheim Museums, "Art of the Motorcycle" exhibit, and television distribution rights were bought by Oprah Winfrey's Oxygen Network.
After traveling around the East Coast for the documentary filming, Ms. Howells was so impressed by the impact of learning how to ride was on her life, she wanted to be an instrumental part of teaching others how to ride. Through many hardships, and little support, she was able to start Motorcycle Safety School in 1999. The school has now grown to three locations and a dynamic staff from the office to instructors that all contribute to the positive learning experience at MSS. Articles about the school have been featured in, The NY Daily News, The New York Post, TimeOut New York, The New York Times, and the Westchester Journal News, as well as ABC news 7, and the WB11. |
